Technique:
The pictures were taken with Nikon cameras
and lens , using Ilford HP-5 film. They were scanned in a Nikon
Coolscan III and adjusted in Photoshop VII in an Apple G-4.

Comments
Maximon is a pagan saint. He is the product of the fusion between
the Indigenous and the Catholic religions. His origins are surrounded
by many legends and many miracles.
In
San Andrés Iztapa, a town located in the West of the Capital
City, Maximon's day is celebrated on October 28th, there are thousands
of believers (the majority are mestizos) that arrive at the place,
to pray and to deliver their offerings.
All
kind of miracles are ascribed to Maximon or San Simon, such as
economic improvements and luck in love, among a lot more. These
pictures were taken in the dawn of October 28th , 2001, after
the night of his party, outside the chapel.

Maximon es un santo pagano producto de la fusión entre
las religiones indígenas y la católica. Sus
orígenes tienen muchas leyendas y le atribuyen muchos milagros.
En
San Andrés Iztapa, un pueblo al occidente de la capital,
el 28 de Octubre le celebran su día, son miles de creyentes
(mestizos la mayoría) los que llegan a rezar y dejar sus
ofrendas.
A
Maximon o San Simón le atribuyen milagros de todo tipo,
mejorías económicas y suerte en el amor, entre muchas
otras . Estas fotografías fueron tomadas en la madrugada
del 28 de Octubre del 2001, después de una noche de fiesta
en las afueras de la capilla.
