The Irish have an image as an emigrant people; driven away from their homeland by poverty, despair oppression and lack of opportunity.
While visiting these unoccupied houses I felt like an intruder disturbing the spirits that still haunt every room.
While looking at the scenes about me I felt I was awakening ghosts from my childhood past .
I decided at an early stage to shoot in colour as against black and white because this allowed me to capture the unique rich colours within the houses which were in contrast to the poverty of the times. I have strived at all times not to move or arrange items but to photograph as found.

Los irlandeses tienen una imagen de pueblo emigrante, abandonando su tierra por la pobreza, la desesperación , la opresión y la falta de oportunidades. Al visitar las casa abandonadas, me sentí como un intruso que perturbaba a los espíritus que siguen habitando cada habitación. Al ver las escenas sobre mi, sentí que despertaba a los fantasmas de mi niñez.
Decidí muy pronto fotografiar a color en lugar de blanco y negro ya que me permitía capturar los singulares y ricos colores dentro de las casas, que contrastaban con la pobreza de los tiempos. he intentado no mover o arrglar los objetos y fotografiarlos como los encontré.
