This work was done during 10 days in the last part of June, 2000 during my trip back to Vietnam, after 30 years. I served as a U.S. serviceman during the war, from 1968 to 1970, in the U.S.Navy, patrolling the border between Cambodia and Vietnam on the Mekong River.

W hen I returned from the war I decided to become a photojournalist and dedicated my life to that end. Last june I had the opportunity to return, something I never thought possible.

What I tried to do with this work is the same as the title of the work, "Healing the wounds", both mine and those who suffered from the terrible experience. Life must go on, which it does, and I hope that this work sheds a little more light on the plight of a poor people who have suffered from political decisions all thgroiughout the history of this small asiatic country.

Tomé estas fotografías durante mi viaje a Vietnam, después de 30 años. Serví como militar estadounidense durante la guerra, de 1968-1970, en la marina de EE.UU. estando de patrulla de la frontera entre Camboya y Vietnam en el Río Mekong.

Cuando regresé de la guerra decidí ser fotoperiodista.En junio del año pasado tuve la oportunidad de regresar, algo que nunca hubiera pensado posible.

Lo que intenté hacer en este trabajo es lo mismo que el título del trabajo, “curando las heridas”, tanto las mías como las de los que sufrieron de la experiencia terrible. La vida debe seguir, y espero que este trabajo arroja un poco más luz sobre el apuro de un pueblo pobre que ha sufrida de las decisiones políticas durante toda la historia de este pequeño país asiático.
