Hana:
Kinetic Life. The antithesis of still life, these photographs
were taken outdoors in the flowers' habitat. There are no cloth
backdrops or floral arrangements. Because the viewer is accustomed
to the existing conventions of flower photography, there is a
tendency to rearrange reality to suit the images one has seen.
As a result my photographs appear disorienting by comparison,
but these are images of how flowers actually grow.
Hanamoyo:
Floral Geometry. Each kind of flower has a unique geometry that
constitutes a type of visual language. If you understand the language,
then you understand the flower. By 'understand', I mean one begins
to approach a deeper structural level of knowing what makes a
flower beautiful, but the actual mystery of beauty itself remains
hidden.
Yo:
Flowerspace. In the world of flowers, there is no right or left,
no up or down; only light and dark. The only orientation is towards
the light.

Hana:
La vida cinética. Estas fotografías, antítesis
de la naturaleza muerta, fueron tomadas al aire libre en el habitat
de las flores. No existe telón de fondo ni arreglos florales.
Debido a que el espectador está acostumbrado a las convenciones
actuales de la fotografía de flores, hay una tendencia
a reorganizar la realidad para adecuarla a las imágenes
que uno ha visto. Por eso, mis fotografías parecen desconcertar,
ya que son imágenes de cómo crecen realmente las
flores.
Hanamoyo:
Geometría Floral. Cada flor tiene una geometría
particular que equivale una forma de lenguaje visual. Si se comprende
el idioma, se comprende la flor. Por 'entender' quiero decir que
uno empipeza a acercarse a un nivel más profundo de conocimiento
sobre lo que hace a una flor hermosa, pero el misterio real de
la belleza queda todavía escondido.
Yo:
El espacio de las flores. En el mudo de las flores, no hay izquierda
ni derecha, ni arriba ni abajo; sólo luz y oscuridad. La
única orientación es hacia la luz.
