My
love for photography surfaced at an early age. A shoe box full
of prints (that's where I keep mine too) at my grandmother's caught
my eye one day. The feel of the old tin types and the photos from
old Brownie cameras was really interesting. Everything about the
photos interested me... the shadow andlight, the composition,
the blur, the focus, the rips and creases. Time passed and I moved
on to become an art school drop out and then a commercial photographer.
I've always loved the challenge of creating imagery that is the
answer to a client's question. The more creative freedom, the
better.
Since
moving to Boulder, Colorado (from Milwaukee, Wisconsin) this photo-illustration
style just appeared one day. Perhaps a dream that didn't stop
when the alarm clock went off. With a box of rusty nails, a ball
of twine, and a bit of industrial grime, these images seem to
create themselves. (o.k., it's a little more than that) It has
been over fifteen years since those art school days, and any gallery
exhibits... but I'm back to doing my art.

Mi
amor por la fotografía surgió a muy temprana edad.
Un día, en casa de mi abuela, una caja de zapatos llena
de impresiones me llamó la atención. La sensación
de esas impresiones en estaño y las fotos de las antiguas
cámaras Brownie fue realmente interesante. Me interesaba
todo... la luz y sombra, la composición, el aspecto borroso,
el foco, los reasgones y dobleces. El tiempo pasó, me salí
de la escuea de arte y me convertí en fotógrafo
comercial. Siempre me ha gustado el desafío de crear imágenes
que respondan a las preguntas planteadas por los clientes. Entre
más libertad creativa, mejor.
Desde
que me mudé a Boulder, Colorado (desde Milwaukee, Wisconsin),
este estilo de foto-ilustración surgió un día.
Quizás un sueño que no concluyó al sonar
el despertador. Con una caja de clavos oxidados, cordel y un poco
de cochambre industrial, estas imágenes parecen haberse
creado solas (bueno, no es tan fácil). Han pasado más
de 15 años desde los días de la escuela de arte
y las exhibiciones en galería... pero he vuelto a crear
mi arte.
Las
imágenes se realizaron entre los años 2000 y 2001.
