Because
they are often viewed as social outcasts, simply because they are
excising their rights to express themselves freely with make-up
and costume, they know what it feels like to be judged and unwelcome.
The trust they have given me as a photographer, the friendship they
have offered, the excitement they have shared about my project,
and their willingness to pose for me month after month, has been
a great gift. To me these folks are the epitome of living art. They
are not afraid to experiment, and redesign and redefine themselves
weekly. I applaud them for their courage and freedom, especially
in light of the disconcerting stares and preconceived negative attitudes
they encounter daily, about who they are and what they must be like. |

Puesto que a menudo son percibidos como marginados sociales, simplemente
por que ejercitan su derecho a expresarse libremente con su maquillaje
y vestimenta, ellos saben lo que es ser juzgado y mal acogido. La
confianza que me han otorgado como fotógrafa, la amistad
que me han ofrecido, la emoción que han compartido por mi
proyecto y su disposición para posar mes tras mes han sido
un gran obsequio. Para mí estas personas son el epítome
de arte como forma de vida. No temen experimentar, rediseñarse
o redefinirse cada semana. Los aplaudo por su valor y libertad,
especialmente a la luz de las miradas desconcertadas y actitudes
negativas preconcebidas que enfrantan a diario sobre lo que son
y lo que deben ser. |
