My current work is primarily concerned with investigating/reflecting my thoughts on the tradition and interpretation of the portrait, direct or indirect, by using an "alternative" camera. I have been using a plastic camera, Holga, not because it is a precision piece of equipment, but precisely because it is not. It is the camera's inherent problems, its lack of sharp focus, lens distortion, light leaks that give it its "accidential" qualities. I am looking for an approach that can replace the kind of empty formal sterility and/or pattern making that is seen as the "ultimate" way of taking someone's picture. What I wanted was something that was new, to me, and allowed me to create more innovate images. One of the most obvious changes in my photography is that I have lately become more and more interested in using a medium format camera and when I started working on my current project I felt that my work continued to move on and became more visually interesting.

Mi trabajo actual está orientado sobre todo a investigar y hacer una reflexión en torno a la tradición y la interpretación del retrato, directo o indirecto, usando una cámara "alternativa". He estado utilizando una cámara de plástico Holga, no por ser un equipo de precisión, si no precisamente porque no lo es. Los problemas inherentes de la cámara, la falta de un enfoque preciso, la distorsión de la lente, las fugas de luz, le proporcionan una calidad "contingente". Busco un acercamiento que permita reemplazar ese tipo de esterilidad formal y/o la creación de patrones, que han sido vistos como el "mejor modo" de tomar el retrato de alguien. Quería algo que fuera nuevo para mí y que me permitiera crear imágnes más innovadoras. Uno de los cambios más obvios en mi fotografía es que últimamente me he interesado cada vez más en usar la cámara de medio formato, y cuando comencé a trabajar en este proyecto sentí que mi trabajo marchaba hacia adelanto y se volvía visualmente más interesante.
