The images comprising the series “ In the shadow of man” give
visual
form to the ambivalent aspects of our industrial and urban presence.
It has now been generally accepted that the human brain has remained structurally
stable over the past 30,000 years. During this time, our physical, mental and
emotional constitutions have remained virtually unchanged.
The problem is that, in our breakneck economic and technological growth during
the past two centuries, our ability to influence the entire earth has also grown.
We now cast industrial shadows that are global, far- reaching and inescapable.
The human capacity for sheer creative
brilliance locks horns with that of power and greed as these entities
compete with limited foresight on the battlefields of human cultures
throughout the world. The shortsightedness reflecting our brains brief evolutionary
history in comparison with that of the earth has become increasingly problematic.
Mankind’s relationship to life has become
increasingly ominous. The complex interplay between man, nature and
technology is characterized in this body of work. |

Ahora
se acepta generalmente que el cerebro humano ha tenido una estructura
estable durante los últimos 30.000
años.
Durante este tiempo, nuestras constituciones física, mental
y emocional virtualmente no han cambiado.
El problema es que nuestro peligrosamente rápido crecimiento
económico y tecnológico durante los últimos
dos siglos y nuestra capacidad de influir en la tierra entera
también ha crecido. Ahora proyectamos nuestras sombras
industriales, globales, de largo alcance e ineludibles.
La capacidad
humana para la brillantez creativa pura se enfrenta al poder
y la avaricia. Estas entidades compiten con poca previsión
en los campos de batalla de las culturas humanas alrededor del
mundo. La falta de visión que refleja la corta historia
evolutiva de nuestro cerebro en comparación con la de
la Tierra, ha llegado a ser cada vez más problemática.
La relación de la humanidad con la vida es cada vez más
ominosa. La interacción compleja entre el hombre, la naturaleza
y la tecnología se caracteriza en este cuerpo del trabajo.
