I fell in love with photography very early, and
bought my first camera in a second-hand shop,back in
post-communist Romania. It was a heavy, old Russian
camera. All I was thinking of was taking pictures of
my dog. 14 years later I found myself in Africa,
documenting peoples’ lives and ways, photographing
their smiles, customs, richness, misery. Why do I
photograph beggars? Because I feel good next to them.
Because from the moment I stop to ask them if they
would allow me to take their picture, they could
become my buddies, they feel safe with me
and I feel like recording their story. All the streets
of any town in any part of the world have a beautiful
story to tell. |

Comentarios
Me enamoré de la fotografía tempranamente. Compré mi
primera cámara,una rusa muy pesada, en una tienda de segunda
mano en la Rumania post-Comunista. Todo lo que quería era
tomar fotos a mi perro. 14 años despúés
me
encuentro en África documentando la vida y costumbres
de su gente, fotografiando sus sonrisas,
idiosincrasia, riqueza y miseria.
¿Por que fotografío
pordioseros? Por que me siento a gusto con ellos. Por
que desde el momento en que me paro a preguntarles si me permitirían
tomarles una foto, podrian volverse mis amigos, ellos se sienten
seguros conmigo y a mí me dan ganas de registrar su historia.
Todas las calles de
cualquier ciudad en el mundo tienen una linda historia que contar.
