The Los Angeles Project
Project is a work in progress starting in August 2001.
There is a reason that I photograph; I don't like to write. The
ability to articulate a point of view by either written word or
verbally may work for others, but I have found myself most satisfied
with the use of images that I have been fortunate enough to capture
with my camera. I stumbled into photography as a result of an
athletic injury in high school. With time on my hands I was given
a camera and taught the basics of film processing. My first roll
was shot on the street. To this day, I think the street is still
the best place to shoot. I have never found satisfaction in figurative
work, studio portraiture or any other type of photography that
requires pre-conception. I find the greatest satisfaction in recording
the world and its the strange visual coincidences that present
themselves - every day and every minute.
I look for the contradiction, ironies, and general beauty/strangeness
of my immediate surroundings. My work, for the most part deals
with people in urban settings. Some day I may grow tired of it,
but I have not yet reached that point, and still enjoy pursuing
new situations every week.

De el "Proyecto Los Angeles".
El proyecto se encuentra en desarrollo desde Agosto del 2001.
Hay una razón por la que tomo fotografías; no me
gusta escribir, la capacidad de articular un punto de vista ya
sea por escritio o verbalmente puede que funcione para otros,
pero encuentro que el uso de imágenes que he tenido la
fortuna de capturar con mi cámara me es más satisfactorio.
Me topé con la fotografía como resultado de una
lesión atlética en la escuela. Con ese tiempo en
mis manos se me dió una cámara y se me enseñaron
las bases del proceso de revelado. Mi primer rollo fué
tomado en la calles y hasta hoy pienso que es el mejor lugar para
fotografiar. No he encontrado satisfacción en el trabajo
figurativo, de retratos u otra clase de fotografía que
requiera ser preconcebida. Encuentro la mayor satisfacción
registrando el mundo y las raras coincidencias visuales que se
presentan en cada momento. Busco contradicciones irónicas
y lo bello y lo extraño que hay en mi entorno.
Mi trabajo en su mayor parte trata de gente en entornos urbanos.
Algún día tal vez me canse de ello pero todavía
no llego a ese punto y sigo disfrutando el buscar nuevas situaciones
todos los días.
