I am inspired by the diaries of my great grandfather, who was the paymaster at a mill in Lawrence, Massachusetts (USA), and who predates me by about a century. I never knew him, but I am fascinated by the differences – and similarities – of life from that age to the present.

I have discovered that I am drawn to photograph the spaces – mostly interiors – of the historic structures that surround me here inNew England. I feel a "presence" when I am in these places – not in a spooky way, but in a mysterious and wonderful realization that life is a continuum. I am impressed with the textures of these spaces, and the way that light interacts with them. They are filled with space and light, and stand as memorials to the people who came before me.

My work explores the light and space of these structures, and reflects the profound emptiness where life once was abundant. My prints evoke a sense of quietness and contemplation, and seek to go beyond just documenting what a place looks like. They explore in an intimate way the sense of quiet wonderment I have for them and the people who built them.

La inspiración vino de los diarios de mi bisabuelo, que era el pagador en un molino en Lawrence, Massachusetts (EE.UU.), y vivió hace como un siglo. Nunca lo conocí, pero estoy fascinado por
las diferencias - y las semejanzas - de la vida de esa época y la presente.

He descubierto que me atrae el fotografiar los espacios - sobre
todo interiores - de las estructuras históricas que me rodean aquí
en Nueva Inglaterra. Siento una "presencia" cuando estoy en estos lugares
- no de una manera tenebrosa, sino en una realización misteriosa y
maravillosa que la vida es un continuo. Me impresionan las
texturas de estos espacios, y la manera que la luz interactúa con ellas. Se llenan con espacio y luz se erigen como monumentos a la gente que me precedió

Mi trabajo explora la luz y el espacio de estas estructuras, y refleja
el vacío profundo donde alguna vez hubo mucha vida. Mis impresiones evocan un sentido de la quietud y de la contemplación, e
intentan ir más allá de simplemente documentar la apariencia de un lugar.
Exploran de una manera íntima el sentido de sereno asombro que me provocan estas edificaciones y la gente que las construyó.
