A beautifull body in a pantherskin in a combative pose. Flowered wallpaper and chair. A reference to colonial times. The pantherskin is a male trophee, the panther a symbol of Christ's resurrection. The woman tempts us, but there is nothing sinfull in her seductiveness: she but beckons us to follow the right path.

About the series
In Les Nudes d'Hattonville Jean Ruiter again explores this important topic. It is a story about past and present. About the old and the new world. About the marks people leave behind. Marks later generations have to live with. A central image in this series is the role of women as bearers of history. Sometimes they are portrayed as victims, but they come out victouriously in the end. The series continues the themes of the Dante-series (1999) and the series Women Sacrified, made in the nineteen eighties.

Un cuerpo hermoso debajo de una piel de pantera en actitud combativa. Papel tapiz floreado y una silla. Una referencia a los tiempos coloniales. La piel de pantera es un trofeo masculino, la pantera es símbolo de la resurrección de Cristo. La mujer nos tienta, pero no hay nada pecaminoso en su seducción: tan sólo nos incita a seguir el camino correcto.

Sobre la serie
En “Les Nudes d’Hattonville”, Jean Ruiter vuelve a explorar este importante tema. Es una historia sobre el pasado y el presente. Sobre el viejo y el nuevo mundo. Sobre las huellas que la gente deja atrás. Huellas con las que tienen que vivir las generaciones posteriores. Una imagen central de esta serie es el papel de las mujeres como portadoras de la historia. A veces son retratadas como víctimas, pero al final salen victoriosas. La serie continúa los temas de la serie Dante (1999) y la serie Mujeres Sacrificadas, realizadas en los años ochenta.
