I would also like to emphasize an other aspect of this work: the
influence of the field notes taken by the naturalists of the 17th
and 18th centuries, in which they documented the new species that
were found during expeditions to the uncharted territories of America
and Africa. Their precise and very detailed drawings show plants
and animals isolated from their surroundings, isolated from other
elements that might be distractful or might distort the features
still in need of being discovered or named. This is where the title
for this project comes from. From the standpoint of one such naturalist,
I make an evocation of those field notes. If similar tool had been
available back then, it is conceivable that they might have used
them to register their findings. |

Comentarios
El otro elemento que quisiera destacar en este proyecto son las
influencias de los libros y cuadernos de campo de los naturalistas
de los siglos XVII y XVIII en donde se representan las nuevas especies
encontradas a lo largo de las expediciones realizadas por las inexploradas
tierras de América y África. Son dibujos precisos
y con gran riqueza de detalles que nos muestran plantas y animales
aislados de su entorno, aislados de otros elementos que puedan distraer
o distorsionar sus características aun por descubrir o nombrar.
De aquí procede la otra parte del título de este proyecto:
Cuaderno de campo. Como si de un naturalista se tratase, hago una
evocación a dichos cuadernos. Si ellos hubiesen tenido una
herramienta similar es posible que la hubiesen utilizado para registrar
sus capturas. |
