The Fishermen from the Great Swamp

All the birds in the sky had got worked up by the catch, and the fishermen had to frighten them off with their oars so that they wouldn't compete for the fruits of that forbidden miracle. The use of poisonous and narcotic plants for fishing, which just made the fish drowsy, was sanctioned by law since colonial times, but it continued to be common practice in broad daylight amongst the fishermen of the Caribbean, until it was replaced by dynamite.
