| The clouds of smoke from hundreds of thousands of candles fill the square at Fátima, Portugal, obliterating from view the top of the church. People hold vigil on the night of the anniversary of the apparition, in the hope that history will repeat itself. On 13 May 1917 three shepherd children had a vision from the Virgin, saying that if her requests were granted there would be peace on earth. On the 13th of each month between May and October they had visions, culminating in the miracle of the 13 October, when seventy thousand people witnesses a 'dancing sun'. |
