Day 12

Another day of portfolio reviews. I am very encouraged by some of the work that I get to see.

Daniel Meadows and I meet to discuss bringing his work to Mexico, something we have been planning for quite some time. We chat and discuss the details of how this is to happen. We review the developments in photography over these recent years since we last met.

Mark Sealy tells me about the funding he has received to build a facility for his organization, Autograph ( 3.5 million pounds). We discuss the possibility to exhibit some of the photographers that he has been supporting in Mexico.

I come across this monumental chair, which obviously bring me back to another similar image that I made some years ago, in Washington D.C. The interesting thing about these images is that they play with our perception of scale and many are those who believe that these pictures were created in the computer rather than being unaltered, straight photographs.

In the evening we are taken to the new Ikon Gallery which is quite impressive. Showing is the work of Japanese photographer, Nobuyoshi Araki. I make some small videos using my still picture camera.

Sitting on the terrace of the restaurant we are eating at, is a small group of women, all dressed in pink, I am curious and go to take pictures of them. They explain that they are holding a "hen party", for one of the girls who is about to get married. They ask me to put on a pink wig, which I do, to continue with the fun, however, no sooner do I have it on when Fred Baldwin comes and asks to put on the wig himself, he wants to send such a picture to his son. With great joy I hand him the wig and set him up for a special portrait.
