AY DIOS - Diana Blok

Girls at school

Public schools have a bad reputation in Curacao. This one is special however. I am taken there by a painter who teaches art history. The school is clean and the students show respect.

The seven girls awaiting my visit take it very seriously. They have all brought their favourite dresses for me to choose from. They lay them out on a table, conceding me the priviliege of dressing them.

I am aware that I am building a scene. They present me with options and I chose the tableau vivant where they will each play an individual role within the group. I find a wall to use as a neutral background and natural light that can reflect all the diverse skin tones.

I direct, but I like portraying silence.
